Great Stirrup Cay is Norwegian Cruise Line's (NCL) private island in the Bahamas, exclusively used for cruise passengers since 1977. This destination offers pristine white sand beaches, majestic palm trees, and calm, clear waters teeming with colorful marine life around its coral reefs.
Currently, ships access the island via tenders, docking at a marina approximately 12 feet deep at low water. However, a significant $150 million pier development is slated to break ground in summer 2024 and is expected to be completed by late 2025. This new pier will be capable of simultaneously accommodating two large cruise vessels from NCL's current and future fleets. The island has also seen a $400 million upgrade, which includes a new 1,000-foot zip line, a half-mile oceanside boardwalk spanning 100,000 feet of pathway, enhanced and expanded dining options, and an updated atmosphere.
Getting Around from the Port
As a private cruise line island, all activities and facilities are concentrated within Great Stirrup Cay itself. There is no external town center or public transportation system beyond the island. Guests primarily explore on foot, with various attractions and dining options easily accessible. Some activities, such as the eco-adventure boat tour, involve specific island-provided transport. Car rentals, taxis, or public transit are not applicable here.
